Sweden honeymoon hero

If you're looking for a honeymoon that feels a little different — design-forward cities, vast untamed nature, and some of the most magical light on earth — Sweden delivers. It's the kind of place where you can sip coffee in a stylish Stockholm café one day and chase the northern lights across the Arctic the next. Here's our guide to planning a Sweden honeymoon you'll never forget.

Why Sweden for a Honeymoon

Sweden offers range most destinations can't. There's effortlessly cool Stockholm, spread across fourteen islands; a vast archipelago made for slow summer days; and the Arctic wilderness of Swedish Lapland, where the seasons hand you either the midnight sun or the aurora. It's safe, easy to travel, and English is spoken almost everywhere — and the Swedish art of fika (a proper coffee-and-pastry break) is basically a honeymoon love language.

When to Go

Sweden is really two honeymoons depending on when you visit. Summer (June–August) brings long, golden days, the midnight sun in the north, and the archipelago at its best — this is peak season. Late May and September are lovely shoulder windows. Winter (December–March) is for snow, cozy cabins, and the northern lights, when Lapland turns into a wonderland of dog sledding and ice hotels.

Bliss Specialist Tip

"Decide on the experience first, then the dates. Want the midnight sun and island-hopping? Go in summer. Dreaming of the aurora from under a blanket? Go deep winter. Trying to do both in one trip rarely works — so we help couples pick the version that fits their dream."

Where to Go

Stockholm

The capital is built across fourteen islands, so water is everywhere. Wander the cobbled lanes of Gamla Stan (the old town), browse Scandinavian design, dine exceptionally well, and hop a boat into the archipelago right from the city.

The Stockholm Archipelago

Thousands of islands stretch out from the city — a summer dream of red wooden cottages, quiet swims, fresh seafood, and ferry-hopping between tiny harbors. The ultimate place to slow down together.

Swedish Lapland

The Arctic north is where the magic happens. In winter, chase the northern lights, sleep at the famous ICEHOTEL or a design-forward Treehotel, and try dog sledding across the snow. In summer, the midnight sun keeps the sky glowing well past midnight. You can also experience the Indigenous Sami culture of the region.

Gothenburg & the West Coast

Sweden's relaxed second city is a foodie favorite, with a celebrated seafood scene and a string of rocky islands just offshore — a laid-back counterpoint to Stockholm.

Romantic Things to Do

A few experiences couples treasure most:

  • Chase the northern lights on a winter night in Lapland.
  • Stay somewhere unforgettable — the ICEHOTEL or a glass-walled Treehotel suite.
  • Sauna and cold plunge, the Swedish way, then warm up by the fire.
  • Spend a summer day in the archipelago, island-hopping by boat.
  • Hike or paddle under the midnight sun in the long northern light.
  • Go dog sledding across the snow behind a team of huskies.
  • Linger over a long fika — coffee, cinnamon buns, and no rush.

We can arrange these for you, or you can browse Sweden tours and experiences here to start dreaming.

Getting Around

Most couples fly into Stockholm and connect north to Lapland by a short domestic flight (to Kiruna) or the scenic overnight train. Around the south, fast trains and ferries make it easy to combine Stockholm, the archipelago, and Gothenburg without a car. We'll map the route so the travel between stops is part of the experience, not a hassle.

"Our go-to summer Sweden honeymoon: a few stylish days in Stockholm, time out in the archipelago, then north for the midnight sun — or flip it for a winter aurora escape. We tailor every stop to the two of you."

Before You Go: A Few Practical Notes

Sweden is easy and welcoming once a few essentials are sorted — and we handle the planning end to end. For U.S. travelers:

  • Visa. U.S. travelers can currently visit Sweden visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
  • ETIAS (coming soon). A new online pre-authorization for visa-free visitors — a quick application, around €20, valid three years — is being rolled out for the Schengen area and is expected to become required during 2026–2027. It isn't required just yet, so we'll confirm the current status when you book.
  • Passport. Valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates is the safe rule of thumb.
  • Currency. Sweden uses the Swedish krona (SEK), not the euro — and it's famously close to cashless, so bring a card and you'll rarely need cash at all.
  • Best time to go. Summer for the midnight sun and islands; deep winter for the northern lights. Pick your dream, then we'll pick the dates.

Entry requirements across Europe are changing, so we always confirm exactly what's needed before departure and send a simple pre-trip checklist.

Sweden rewards couples who want a honeymoon with a sense of wonder — sleek cities, wide-open wilderness, and light you'll never forget, whether it's the midnight sun or the aurora overhead. Getting the season and the route right is what makes it magic, and it's exactly what a good honeymoon travel agent is there to handle.
