Can AI Plan Your Honeymoon? What It Does Well, and Where a Travel Specialist Still Wins

Let's be honest: we use AI too. It's fast, it's free, and it's a great place to start dreaming. If you've already asked a chatbot for "the best honeymoon destinations in March," you're in good company.

But a honeymoon isn't a weekend away. It's often the biggest trip a couple has ever taken, with a lot of money and a lot of emotion riding on it. So here's a clear-eyed look at where AI helps, where it falls short, and how to use it alongside a specialist to get the best of both.

What AI is genuinely good at

AI tools are excellent for the early, open-ended part of planning. They can help you:

  • Brainstorm destinations that match your budget, season, and travel style
  • Compare broad options, like Mexico versus the Caribbean, or Greece versus Italy
  • Rough out a sample itinerary so you can picture the trip
  • Build a packing list or a list of questions to ask
Our tip: Use AI to figure out what you want. Then bring that list to a specialist, who can tell you what's actually true, available, and right for you.

Where AI falls short

It can be confidently wrong

AI tools sometimes state outdated or incorrect information with total confidence. A resort that has changed its adults-only policy, a property under renovation, a transfer time that doesn't account for traffic, or a restaurant that closed last year can all show up in an answer that sounds perfectly sure of itself. On a trip this important, small errors can become big disappointments.

It hasn't been there

AI can summarize reviews, but it has never walked a property. A specialist who has toured resorts, talked with the staff, and heard back from hundreds of couples knows things that aren't in any listing: which building is quieter, which room category is worth the upgrade, and which "oceanview" rooms mostly view the parking lot.

It can't step in when something goes wrong

Flights get canceled. Hurricanes happen. Sometimes the room you booked isn't the room you get. When that happens, a chatbot can suggest what to do, but it can't call the resort, rebook your transfer, or advocate for you with the supplier. A specialist can, and it's often in those moments that couples tell us working with a person made all the difference.

It doesn't really know you

A good specialist listens for what you don't say. Maybe one of you hates crowds, or you're celebrating a milestone you'd rather keep low-key. Maybe you want an alcohol-free trip, and we'd point you toward our sober and sober-curious travel recommendations. Or maybe you want to be sure a resort is genuinely welcoming, which is why we put together our LGBTQ+ honeymoon planning guidance. These details shape a great trip, and they rarely make it into a prompt.

It can't book, hold, or manage the details

AI can describe a trip, but it can't hold your room while you decide, coordinate flights and transfers, keep an eye on deadlines, or manage a destination wedding group block. Those details are where most travel stress lives, and they're what a specialist handles for you.

"I have never been to Italy and the idea of picking hotels and setting up proper timing of travel and transfers seemed too daunting. Kyle suggested the route and set up the trains, transfers, pick ups, etc perfectly. It was exactly what I was hoping for, no stress." Jean S.

The smartest approach: use both

You don't have to choose. Many of our favorite couples show up to their first call with a list they built using AI. That's a wonderful starting point. We take it from there, confirm what's accurate, flag what isn't, and build a trip around the two of you.
