The Antigua Honeymoon Guide: Three Extraordinary Resorts on the Caribbean's Most Underrated Island

Antigua doesn't get the attention it deserves. Ask most couples to name their Caribbean honeymoon shortlist and they'll say Jamaica, Barbados, St. Lucia, the Dominican Republic — and often leave out the island that has 365 beaches (one for every day of the year), some of the most beautiful all-inclusive properties in the entire Caribbean, and a warmth and charm that is entirely its own.

Part of what makes Antigua such a compelling honeymoon destination is the quality of its boutique all-inclusive resorts. This isn't an island of mega-resorts and entertainment complexes. It's an island of intimate, adults-only properties where the guest count is small, the service is personal, the food is genuinely extraordinary, and the emphasis is entirely on romance and relaxation. If that sounds like what you're looking for, Antigua might be the answer you didn't know you were looking for.

Here are the three properties we're most excited about — and an honest breakdown of which one is right for you.

"Antigua is the Caribbean island that converts skeptics. Couples who almost didn't go come home and tell everyone they know."

Why Antigua for Your Honeymoon?

  • 365 beaches. The island has a beach for every day of the year — from busy tourist strips to completely deserted coves reachable only by boat. The variety is extraordinary.
  • The warmth of the people. Antigua consistently ranks among the most welcoming islands in the Caribbean. The service culture here is genuine rather than performative.
  • Boutique all-inclusive properties. Antigua's best resorts are intimate — 30 to 49 villas — which means the service is personal, the atmosphere is quiet, and you never feel like you're in a crowd.
  • English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard. One of the Caribbean's most impressive historical sites, and Shirley Heights above it has arguably the best view in the entire Caribbean.
  • Easy to get to. V.C. Bird International Airport receives direct flights from multiple US cities including New York, Miami, and Charlotte, as well as London and Toronto. Most transfers to the top resorts are 30–45 minutes.
  • Conde Nast consistently ranks Antigua's resorts among the best in the Caribbean — including Hermitage Bay on the 2026 Gold List.
Gastronomy-First · 49 Villas · Private Infinity Pools
Hammock Cove
The all-inclusive that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about all-inclusives.

Hammock Cove describes itself as "gastronomy-first" — and after reading what couples consistently say about the food here, that's not marketing language. It's an accurate description of a resort built around culinary excellence in a way that no other Caribbean all-inclusive has managed to replicate.

Executive Chef Marco Festini Cromer brings a Michelin-starred background to a kitchen that serves à la carte meals — no buffets, ever — with a daily-changing menu featuring fresh lobster, wagyu beef, oysters, and intricate tasting menus. The gnocchi recipe comes from his grandmother in Italy. The cheese selection is personally curated. Guests consistently describe the dining as the best they've ever experienced at any resort, anywhere. And it's all included.

The property itself consists of 49 private villas — each with its own infinity plunge pool overlooking the cove — spread across a secluded hillside on Antigua's northeast coast. Every guest is assigned a dedicated "Ambassador" from the moment they arrive: a personal assistant who handles dinner reservations, excursion bookings, cocktails delivered to your pool deck, unpacking and repacking, and anything else you might need. Text them and it's handled.

The beach at Hammock Cove is small — this is primarily a pool-and-view resort rather than a long-beach resort. The cove waters are calm and perfect for snorkeling, paddleboarding, and swimming, but if walking for miles along white sand is your priority, Galley Bay is a better fit. If extraordinary food, complete privacy, and a dedicated ambassador are your priority, there may be no better all-inclusive in the Caribbean.

Notable: Hammock Cove was featured on the Golden Bachelor — which drove significant awareness and bookings in 2025-2026. It is frequently fully booked January through May; book well ahead for winter travel.

What Sets It Apart
  • Chef Marco Festini Cromer — Michelin-trained, daily-changing à la carte menu, no buffets ever
  • Dedicated Ambassador — personal assistant for every villa, available by text 24/7
  • 49 private villas — every one with its own infinity plunge pool and ocean view
  • Cooking demonstration with Chef Marco — one of the most memorable resort experiences available
  • Calypso Cat catamaran excursion — leaves directly from Hammock Cove's beach
  • Pink gazebo — the most requested private dining and proposal spot on property
  • Wine tasting with sommelier Silvia — included and exceptional

Galley Bay Resort & Spa
A beachfront sanctuary where the jungle meets the Caribbean — and the silence is the loudest thing you'll hear.

If Hammock Cove is about extraordinary food and villa luxury, Galley Bay is about something quieter and equally extraordinary: the feeling of being completely removed from the world in a place of genuine natural beauty. Set on 40 lush acres between a sweeping half-mile white sand beach and a tranquil lagoon with a bird sanctuary, Galley Bay has a natural magic that more polished resorts struggle to replicate.

It has been compared to Bali H'ai — the fictional island paradise — and the comparison lands. Colonial architectural touches, a grotto pool, nature trails through the bird sanctuary, a yoga pavilion, thatched-roof spa treatment rooms, and a beach that goes on long enough to actually walk on. The Gauguin Suites — named for the painter — have private plunge pools and kitchenettes; the Premium Beachfront Suites step directly onto the sand.

The dining program is farm-to-table in the most literal sense: Galley Bay grows many of its own ingredients in an organic farm on the property, and the menus across its four restaurants change daily. Guests consistently describe meals here as far above typical all-inclusive quality — the food is genuinely fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and reflects the Caribbean location rather than generic international cuisine.

Galley Bay is adults-only and deliberately quiet. There are no loud entertainment shows, no crowded buffets, no competition for pool chairs. It's built around deep relaxation, and couples who show up looking for that consistently find it. One reviewer who had stayed at both described the experience as "a sanctuary inspired by a scene out of a Disney movie" — which captures the lush, almost magical quality of the setting perfectly.

What Sets It Apart
  • Half-mile white sand beach — one of the finest stretches on the island, directly accessible from beachfront rooms
  • Bird sanctuary and lagoon — 40 acres of lush tropical grounds with nature trails
  • Organic farm-to-table dining — four restaurants, daily-changing menus, ingredients grown on site
  • Grotto pool — one of the most visually stunning hotel pools in the Caribbean
  • Yoga pavilion — complimentary classes, genuinely built into the resort culture
  • Gauguin Suites — private plunge pools and kitchenettes for maximum privacy
  • Thursday BBQ night — a beloved weekly tradition on the beach

Hermitage Bay
Thirty suites. A private cove. One of the most awarded small resorts in the Caribbean.

Hermitage Bay is the smallest of the three — just 30 suites spread across the beach and up a hillside on Antigua's secluded western shore — and by many measures it's the most extraordinary. In 2026 it was named to the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List and awarded Two Keys by the Michelin Guide for "an exceptional stay." It has been called the best all-inclusive resort in the world. Those are not small claims, and the reviews from guests who have stayed here suggest they're not entirely wrong.

The suites are built from sustainable timber sourced from Guyana, designed to blend into the hillside rather than dominate it. Beachfront suites sit steps from the water; hillside pool suites offer extraordinary sunset views from private plunge pools above the cove. Every suite has outdoor monsoon showers, muslin-draped king beds, vast bathrooms with freestanding baths, and hardwood floors throughout. The whole property was freshly renovated in 2024.

One couple who stayed here on their honeymoon booked two nights, then cancelled the rest of their trip at another resort and returned to Hermitage Bay for the remainder of their honeymoon. "It is that special," they wrote. The suites have made guests cry. The service is described as impeccable by nearly every reviewer. The beach feels private because, at 30 suites, it essentially is.

The evenings are a particular highlight: sushi happy hour at sunset as flames flicker in the fire-pit, followed by dinner under the stars, followed by live music — a nightly rhythm that feels designed for honeymooners. The spa's signature Siddhartha Art of Love treatment (beginning with exotic tea and a foot massage, ending with a bath and champagne) has become one of the most requested honeymoon experiences on the island.

What Sets It Apart
  • Condé Nast 2026 Gold List and Michelin Two Keys — among the highest honors in hospitality
  • 30 suites only — the beach and cove feel genuinely private
  • Sushi happy hour at sunset — a beloved nightly ritual at the fire-pit
  • Live music every evening — not a DJ, not a show, just intimate live music
  • Siddhartha Art of Love spa treatment — one of the Caribbean's most celebrated honeymoon spa experiences
  • Freshly renovated 2024 — suites are current and immaculately maintained
  • Hilton Honors partnership — points redemption available for the points-savvy traveler

Beyond the Resort: Antigua's Best Experiences

  • Shirley Heights on Sunday evening. A local steel band, rum punch, and the most spectacular view in the Caribbean overlooking English Harbour and the surrounding islands at sunset. This is the experience Antigua is most famous for — don't miss it.
  • Nelson's Dockyard, English Harbour. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the best-preserved Georgian dockyard in the world. Beautiful, historically extraordinary, and genuinely worth half a day.
  • A catamaran day trip. Most resorts offer this — a sail around the island, snorkeling in clear water, and a beach lunch. The Calypso Cat from Hammock Cove is specifically celebrated. Book it early in your stay.
  • Pink Panther Safari Tour. A half-day island tour that covers Betty's Hope (an old plantation), Nelson's Harbour, and Shirley Heights. An excellent way to understand the island beyond the resort gates.
  • Stingray City. A shallow sandbar where you can interact with stingrays in the wild — a genuinely memorable excursion that most guests love.
  • Devil's Bridge. A dramatic natural limestone arch on the island's northeastern tip, carved by the Atlantic over thousands of years. Striking and unusual.
Best Time to Visit

"Antigua's dry season runs December through April — peak season, best weather, highest prices. The sweet spot for honeymooners is May or November: still warm and sunny, meaningfully lower rates, and fewer guests at all three resorts. Antigua avoids the worst of hurricane season compared to more northerly islands, though travel insurance is always wise for summer travel."
