Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica in October 2025. Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Caribbean Cay reopen December 18, 2026. Sandals South Coast reopens November 18, 2026, and Sandals Negril has reopened. The three still closed are bookable now for stays after their reopening dates. Renovations are extensive — early reports suggest these properties will be significantly upgraded when they return.

A note on airport transfers: fly into SLU (Vigie) for a 20-minute transfer, not UVF (Hewanorra), which is nearly two hours.

Sandals St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Opened in 2024 on the unspoiled island of St. Vincent — lush volcanic scenery, black-sand beaches, and a genuine sense of seclusion unlike anything else in the Caribbean. The two-story overwater villas with private plunge pools and rooftop terraces are genuinely the most spectacular accommodation Sandals has ever built. The Rondoval Villas open November 2026 and are already bookable. Already earning outstanding reviews after just over a year open. Transfer time from Argyle Airport is approximately 55 minutes — factor this in when planning arrival day.

Opened in 2023, Sandals Curaçao is one of the freshest and most beautifully designed properties in the Sandals collection. The island itself is unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean — Dutch colonial architecture, vibrant colors, UNESCO World Heritage Willemstad nearby, and outstanding snorkeling and diving. The resort has a naturally calm, cosmopolitan atmosphere that makes it one of our top sober-friendly picks. Personally one of my favorite Sandals properties — I stayed here and loved every minute. No overwater bungalows, but everything else is exceptional. Year-round availability outside the hurricane belt is a significant practical advantage.

The easiest Sandals to reach from most US cities — Nassau is 2–3 hours from Florida and 3–4 hours from the Northeast. The private offshore island is a genuine highlight: villas, spa, pools, and a beach accessible by ferry. Recently renovated with updated room categories. More social and upbeat than our top honeymoon picks — Nassau has casino and nightlife energy that bleeds into the resort atmosphere. Best for couples who want a shorter trip (3–4 nights) or who specifically want Nassau. Airport noise is also worth noting — the resort is close to the flight path.

Negril's famous Seven Mile Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Jamaica — soft, wide, and stunning at sunset. Sandals Negril sits right on it. The resort has a relaxed, laid-back energy that matches Negril's own vibe — less lively than Montego Bay, slightly more social than the south coast. Newly reopened after its post-hurricane renovation. Couples who love the beach above all else should keep Negril on their shortlist — that beach is genuinely hard to beat anywhere in Jamaica.

The original Sandals resort — it started it all in 1981. It's literally across the street from Montego Bay airport (5-minute transfer), which is its biggest practical advantage. The resort is lively and social, recently renovated, and well-run. Exchange privileges with Caribbean Cay give you access to a combined 21 restaurants. Not our top honeymoon pick — the proximity to the airport means some aircraft noise, and the atmosphere is the most party-forward of any Sandals. But for first-timers who want easy logistics and a classic experience, it works. Reopening December 18, 2026.

Sandals Barbados sits next door to the much-higher-ranked Royal Barbados, and guests at either resort have access to both — so booking here is really booking a dual-resort experience. Sandals Barbados has modern, well-appointed rooms and a lively pool scene, though it ranks below its neighbor because Royal Barbados has the superior butler team, rooftop pool, and dining experience. A good option for couples who want the dual-resort access at a slightly lower price point than Royal Barbados. The beach here is pleasant if not exceptional.
