Couples Resorts Jamaica Guide
The Complete Guide to All Four Couples Resorts in Jamaica: Which One Is Right for You?
Couples Resorts has been defining romance in Jamaica since 1948. Founded by Abe Issa — known as "the father of Jamaican tourism" — the brand built its reputation on one simple philosophy: romance is effortless when everything is included. No kids. No singles. No hassles. Just two people and an entire resort designed around making their time together extraordinary.
Today Couples operates four properties across Jamaica — two in Ocho Rios on the north coast, and two in Negril on the west coast. They share a philosophy and a booking system, but they are four very different resorts with four very different personalities. Choosing the wrong one for the wrong couple is the most common Couples Resorts planning mistake we see. This guide is designed to fix that.
What All Four Couples Resorts Share
Before diving into the differences, it helps to understand what every Couples property includes — because the shared platform is genuinely excellent and explains why the brand has such fiercely loyal repeat guests.
- Truly all-inclusive. All meals, all drinks (including premium spirits), all watersports, all non-motorized activities, all tips, all taxes, all entertainment, and round-trip airport transfers are included. Nothing is withheld to upsell you later.
- Adults-only, couples-only. The "no kids, no singles" policy creates a distinctly different atmosphere from family resorts or even most adults-only properties. Everyone around you is a couple. The vibe reflects that.
- Free scuba diving. Couples is one of the only all-inclusive brands that includes certified scuba diving at no extra charge — twice daily for certified divers. PADI certification courses are also available on-site.
- Stay at one, play at two. Guests at any Couples resort have access to the sister property nearby — Ocho Rios guests can visit both Tower Isle and Sans Souci; Negril guests can visit both Swept Away and Negril. This doubles your dining and activity options.
- Free golf. Greens fees at nearby golf courses are included at all four properties — a genuinely significant value for golfers.
- Legal marriage on-site. All four Couples resorts offer legal wedding ceremonies. Jamaica's 24-hour residency requirement is the only legal hurdle — arrive the day before and the resort's wedding team handles the rest.
- Oasis Spa Villas. All four properties offer private spa villa accommodations — essentially a spa experience built into your room, with a private plunge pool and spa treatments in-suite.
"Couples Resorts are not the cheapest all-inclusive option in Jamaica — and they're not trying to be. What you're paying for is the couples-only environment, the genuinely inclusive pricing (no hidden extras), the scuba diving, and two decades of refinement in what romance-focused hospitality looks like. Our clients who've stayed at both Couples and a similar-priced general all-inclusive consistently tell us Couples was worth more."
The Four Resorts: An Honest Guide
Couples Tower Isle is where the brand began — the first year-round resort in Jamaica, opened in 1949 during the golden age of Caribbean travel when the island drew Hollywood royalty and international jetsetters. That heritage is still visible in the resort's elegant aesthetic: gracious architecture, manicured grounds, a sense of occasion that feels genuinely classic rather than manufactured.
The property's signature feature is its private offshore island — accessible by boat, featuring a clothing-optional beach, a bar, and some of the most extraordinary snorkeling in the area. Knowing the boat goes over several times a day and you can slip away to a private island is one of those quiet luxuries that couples talk about long after the trip. The main beach in Ocho Rios isn't Seven Mile Beach — it's a more cove-like setting, calmer and more protected, which some couples strongly prefer.
Tower Isle is the most historically significant of the four properties and draws guests who appreciate its sense of heritage and character. The 234 rooms and suites spread across 18 acres, with six restaurants, five bars, two pools, and a Red Lane Spa that consistently receives excellent reviews.
Tower Isle offers both legal and symbolic ceremonies with on-site wedding coordinators who handle everything from the license application to the reception setup. The private island is available for intimate ceremony settings — arriving by boat to your wedding on a private island is genuinely extraordinary. The resort's classic elegance makes it a beautiful backdrop for formal wedding photography. Ideal for smaller, more intimate weddings of 20–50 guests.
Sans Souci is the Couples property that comes up most often when we ask guests to name their single favorite resort experience. Something about this property gets under people's skin — the combination of the natural mineral spring that feeds the famous grotto pool, the lush tropical gardens that feel genuinely wild rather than manicured, the old-world glamour of the architecture, and the intimacy of a property that feels genuinely secluded despite being minutes from Ocho Rios.
The mineral grotto is Sans Souci's most distinctive feature — a natural spring-fed pool carved into the rock face, with warm mineral water that emerges from the earth at a therapeutic temperature. Couples discover it in the early morning when the mist rises off the water and nobody else is around and consistently describe it as one of the most extraordinary experiences of their trip. The Piano Bar, open late, is the resort's social heart — intimate, beautiful, and the kind of place that makes couples who normally go to bed early stay up talking until midnight.
With 150 suites spread across a more compact footprint than the other properties, Sans Souci has the most intimate feel of all four Couples resorts. The beach here is more of a sheltered cove — calm, protected, and extraordinarily beautiful — rather than an open stretch of sand. Couples who want Seven Mile Beach should look at Negril; couples who want to feel genuinely tucked away should look here.
Sans Souci's lush gardens and old-world elegance create one of the most beautiful destination wedding settings in Jamaica. The mineral grotto makes for extraordinary ceremony photography — absolutely unique. The intimate size of the property means the resort feels like it's yours in a way that larger properties can't replicate. Best for smaller weddings where the garden setting and the romance of the property are the priority.
Couples Swept Away is the active couple's resort — and it earns that description completely. The property sits on 19 acres of Negril's world-famous Seven Mile Beach, and at its heart is Jamaica's largest sports and fitness complex: tennis courts, squash courts, a fully equipped fitness center, a yoga studio, beach volleyball, basketball, cycling, and more. If your ideal vacation includes a morning workout before hitting the beach and an afternoon trying every watersport available, Swept Away was built specifically for you.
The beach here is the resort's biggest draw — a genuine stretch of Seven Mile Beach, one of the finest in the Caribbean, with calm, swimmable water and the long shallow entry that makes it ideal for couples who want to spend hours in the water. The bungalow-style buildings spread across lush tropical gardens give the property a residential feel — more spread out and private than a tower-style resort, with the gardens creating natural separation between areas.
With 312 suites, Swept Away is the largest of the four Couples properties — which means more variety in dining and activities, but a slightly less intimate feel than Sans Souci or Negril. The restaurant program is excellent, and the stay-at-one-play-at-two access to Couples Negril next door effectively doubles your options.
Swept Away's Seven Mile Beach setting creates extraordinary wedding ceremony photography — the white sand, turquoise water, and long beach backdrop are genuinely stunning. The property's size accommodates larger wedding groups more comfortably than Sans Souci or Tower Isle. The beach itself is the ceremony venue most couples choose, and it delivers completely. Good choice for couples wanting 30–80 guests with an active, beachy wedding week energy.
If Swept Away is the active resort, Couples Negril is its laid-back neighbor — and it captures the true spirit of Negril better than perhaps any other property on the island. Negril is Jamaica's most easygoing destination: a long beach, extraordinary sunsets, a slower pace, and a warmth that feels genuinely different from the more polished north coast. Couples Negril embodies all of that in a property that consistently earns the highest guest satisfaction scores of the four Couples resorts.
The resort sits on Seven Mile Beach with the same extraordinary frontage as Swept Away next door, but with a more intimate feel — 234 suites rather than 312, on a property that feels more personal and less resort-like. The Negril sunsets are legendary, and the west-facing beach means every evening ends with a display that couples describe as life-changing. The included catamaran sunset cruise is one of the most memorable experiences in all of Jamaica.
Couples Negril is particularly popular with guests who've been to Jamaica before and want to experience the island's more relaxed west coast energy. It consistently comes up as the "most Jamaican" of the four Couples properties — the local culture, music, and spirit feel more present here than at the more formal Ocho Rios properties. The stay-at-one-play-at-two access to Swept Away adds activities without sacrificing the relaxed home base.
Couples Negril's west-facing beach creates the most dramatic sunset wedding ceremonies in the Couples portfolio — and possibly in all of Jamaica. An evening ceremony with the Caribbean sunset as your backdrop is genuinely extraordinary. The intimate, relaxed atmosphere makes guests feel welcome and at ease immediately, and the Negril energy creates a wedding week that feels more like a Caribbean adventure than a formal event. Excellent for couples who want a warm, casual, beautiful destination wedding rather than a formal one.

The brand has been hosting weddings since its earliest days, the wedding coordinator teams are experienced and polished, and the all-inclusive model means your guests' entire stay is accounted for in one straightforward price.
- Legal ceremonies at all four properties. Jamaica's 24-hour residency requirement is the only legal hurdle — arrive the day before your ceremony, and the resort handles the license application. Your certificate is legally recognized in the United States.
- Complimentary wedding packages. Couples Resorts is one of the few brands that genuinely includes a wedding package — the WeddingMoons program offers ceremony, flowers, and cake at no extra charge when guests book a qualifying stay. Additional upgrades and enhancements are available.
- The all-inclusive advantage for guests. Your guests pay one rate that covers their entire stay — meals, drinks, activities, and transfers. No surprise bar tabs, no awkward moments about who's paying for what. This makes Couples weddings genuinely easy for guests to budget for.
- Stay-at-one-play-at-two for wedding guests. Your guests have access to the sister property during their stay — doubling their dining and activity options without an additional charge.

- Best properties for different wedding sizes. Sans Souci and Tower Isle are ideal for smaller, more intimate weddings (under 50 guests). Swept Away handles larger groups most comfortably. Negril is best for couples who want the sunset ceremony as the centerpiece of the experience.
"The all-inclusive model makes Couples Resorts one of the cleanest destination wedding experiences we plan — guests know exactly what they're paying, there are no surprises, and everyone can relax and focus on celebrating."
Ocho Rios vs. Negril: Which Coast Is Right for You?
Beyond choosing between the four individual resorts, the Ocho Rios vs. Negril decision shapes the entire tone of a Jamaica trip. Here's our honest comparison:
- Choose Ocho Rios (Tower Isle or Sans Souci) if: You want more excursion options nearby — Dunn's River Falls, the Blue Hole, the Rio Grande bamboo rafting, and other north coast attractions are close. The north coast has a more established tourism infrastructure and a slightly more formal feel. The beach is more sheltered and protected.
- Choose Negril (Swept Away or Negril) if: The beach is your priority — Seven Mile Beach is one of the finest in the Caribbean, full stop. You want the legendary Negril sunsets — the west-facing coast produces light that photographers chase from around the world. You prefer a more relaxed, less formal vibe. Rick's Cafe cliff diving is a genuinely extraordinary day excursion.
- Airport note: Both coasts are served by Montego Bay's Sangster International Airport (MBJ), which receives direct flights from dozens of US cities. The transfer to Ocho Rios is 90 minutes; to Negril is also approximately 90 minutes. Ocho Rios is additionally served by Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ) with transfers of about 30 minutes — useful if you can find a flight there.
