Beach wedding ceremony on Maroma Beach with turquoise water and white sand

El Dorado Maroma sits on what is genuinely one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Maroma Beach has been ranked in the top 10 globally by Travel Channel, Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice has named the resort itself one of the top 4 in the world, and the beach's powdery white sand and clear turquoise water look exactly the way couples picture them when they imagine a Riviera Maya wedding.

Here's what makes Maroma different from the other El Dorado properties: it's the resort that delivers the classic Maroma Beach destination wedding — adults-only, intimate scale, world-class beach setting, less commercial than larger properties, more elevated than budget all-inclusives. I've personally stayed at all the El Dorado properties many times, and Maroma is where I send couples who want the iconic Riviera Maya beach wedding experience without compromising on quality.

This guide walks through the 8 wedding venues, the unique connection to Palafitos overwater bungalows, the South Asian wedding program that sets Maroma apart, and what it actually costs to get married here.

What makes Maroma different from the other El Dorado properties

If you've already looked at Casitas Royale, Palafitos, Seaside, or the broader El Dorado family, the natural question is: what's specifically distinct about Maroma?

The answer is a combination of three things.

First, the beach itself. Maroma Beach isn't just "a nice beach" — it's regularly listed among the world's top 10 beaches. The sand is genuinely powder-soft, the water genuinely the color you're picturing, and the stretch of coastline that El Dorado Maroma occupies is one of the quieter sections, away from heavy resort traffic. For couples who specifically want their wedding photos to look like the Caribbean dream you see on Pinterest, Maroma delivers.

Second, the scale. Maroma is smaller and more intimate than Seaside or El Dorado Royale. It feels like a boutique resort with the infrastructure of a major one. The wedding capacity caps at 150 guests on the beach — which is still generous — but most of our Maroma weddings are in the 30-80 guest range, which is where the property genuinely shines.

Third, the Palafitos connection. El Dorado Maroma and Palafitos are next-door properties operationally — Palafitos overwater bungalows extend from the Maroma pier. This means that Maroma wedding couples have access to Palafitos venues for their wedding (including the Sky Deck overwater ceremony), and many couples book a Palafitos overwater bungalow for themselves while their guests stay in Maroma suites. It's the best of both worlds.

Bliss Specialist Tip

"The Maroma-Palafitos combination is genuinely special. You can hold your ceremony on the Palafitos Sky Deck, your reception on Maroma Beach, and stay in an overwater bungalow yourself — while your guests have the more accessible Maroma suites. We coordinate this combination on a meaningful number of weddings each year."

The 8 wedding venues at El Dorado Maroma

Maroma offers 8 wedding venues across the property, each with different capacities and aesthetic. The variety means you can match your venue to your guest count and the kind of ceremony you're picturing, rather than being forced into a single template.

South Maroma Beach
Up to 150 guests · Beachfront
The largest beach ceremony venue. Powder-soft Maroma Beach sand, panoramic Caribbean views, room for full ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner reception in one location. The classic Maroma wedding shot.
Chapel (Nuestra Señora)
Up to 120 guests · Traditional
An elegant chapel for couples who want a more traditional, formal ceremony space. Indoor, climate-controlled, with stunning architectural details. Often paired with a beach reception.
Gazebo 24
Up to 100 guests · Sunset
A beautiful wooden gazebo that's especially stunning for sunset ceremonies. Customizable with chairs, flowers, and decor to match your wedding aesthetic.
Chapel Beach Gazebo
Up to 80 guests · Versatile
A flexible gazebo near the chapel that works for ceremony, cocktail hour, or smaller receptions. Great option for couples who want a defined ceremony space but on the beach side.
North Beach
Up to 80 guests · More secluded
A quieter section of Maroma Beach for couples who want a more private ceremony location. Same world-class sand and water as South Maroma Beach, smaller footprint.
Sky Deck
Up to 50 guests · Elevated
An elevated open-air deck with sweeping ocean views. Distinctive ceremony venue for intimate weddings where you want the "above it all" feeling rather than barefoot in the sand.
Sky Massage
Up to 50 guests · Unique
An unusual elevated venue with a distinctive design — works beautifully for intimate ceremonies that want to feel different from the standard beach wedding. Excellent photography location.
Mio's Restaurant Palapa
Up to 30 guests · Intimate
A traditional palapa structure perfect for the most intimate ceremonies and elopements. Best for groups under 30 who want a covered, atmospheric venue.

Maroma also has access to Palafitos venues for couples staying at either property — including the Sky Deck overwater ceremony venue at Palafitos, which extends what's possible at Maroma to genuinely include overwater wedding photography.

What makes a Maroma wedding genuinely different

The beach delivers what every Maroma Beach photo promises

Caribbean beach quality varies more than couples realize. Some look great in marketing photos and disappoint in person. Maroma is the opposite — the beach genuinely is what you see in the photos. White, soft, wide, clean. This matters specifically for weddings because your photographer doesn't need to work around the limitations of an underwhelming beach. The Maroma Beach background does the work for you.

South Asian and Indian wedding program

This is a meaningful differentiator. El Dorado Maroma offers a dedicated South Asian Wedding Experience package built specifically for Indian and South Asian wedding traditions — multi-day celebrations, traditional ceremony elements, appropriate venue setups for events like the Mehndi and Sangeet, and dietary accommodations for the wedding party and guests. The package supports up to 50 guests in its base configuration and scales for larger weddings. For couples planning a South Asian destination wedding, very few all-inclusive Riviera Maya resorts have built this specialized program; Maroma has.

The sustainability credentials are real

Maroma has put significant investment into sustainability — energy-efficient accommodations, chemical-free laundry processes, and a water filtering system that converts 92% of water used into drinking water. For couples who care about the environmental footprint of their destination wedding, this isn't greenwashing; it's documented operational practice. It's a meaningful detail to share with environmentally-conscious wedding guests.

One of the most genuinely sober-friendly resorts in the Caribbean

This is something we feel strongly about at Bliss, and it's increasingly meaningful for the couples we work with. El Dorado Maroma is one of the only luxury all-inclusive resorts in Mexico where sober and sober-curious guests are never an afterthought at the bar. The bartenders are trained to craft genuine virgin cocktails (not just leaving out the alcohol), fresh fruit-infused waters are available throughout the property, and the non-alcoholic premium options are taken as seriously as the alcoholic ones.

What matters even more for a wedding week: the activity programming at Maroma is rich enough that no moment of the trip relies on a drink to fill the space. Cooking lessons, yoga, paddleboarding, the catamaran reef snorkel at Maroma Beach, cenote excursions, beach brunches, shopping tours to Playa del Carmen, even tequila tastings (which can be skipped or adapted without making anyone feel awkward) — the property gives sober guests so many ways to engage that many of them feel they haven't done enough by the end of the week.

For couples planning a sober wedding, in recovery, or simply with sober friends and family members in the wedding party, this matters. Most luxury all-inclusive resorts are functionally built around the assumption that everyone is drinking. Maroma is the rare exception — and we've watched it make a tangible difference for couples we've worked with. If you have guests for whom this would matter, it's worth knowing.

Maximum 2 weddings per day

Some larger resorts run 4-6 weddings on busy Saturdays. Maroma caps at 2 per day, with at least 2 hours between ceremonies, and no overlapping locations. This means your wedding won't be competing for venue access, your photos won't have another wedding party in the background, and your coordinator's attention isn't split across multiple events. The intimate scale shows up in operational quality, not just marketing.

"Couples who book Maroma usually picked it specifically for the beach. They show up, see it in person, and realize the photos didn't oversell it. That doesn't happen at every resort."

Who Maroma is the right fit for

You'll love Maroma if:

  • You want an adults-only wedding (18+).
  • The beach itself is non-negotiable — you want one of the world's best.
  • Your wedding is 15-100 guests (sweet spot is 30-80).
  • You're planning a South Asian, Indian, or culturally-specific wedding that benefits from Maroma's dedicated program.
  • You're planning a sober or sober-curious wedding, or have guests in recovery or who don't drink — Maroma is genuinely one of the most thoughtful resorts in the Caribbean for non-drinking guests.
  • You want the option to combine with Palafitos — overwater bungalow for yourselves, Maroma suites for guests, or Palafitos venues for your ceremony.
  • You value an intimate, less commercial resort feel.
  • Sustainability matters to you and your guests.

Maroma may not be the right fit if:

  • You need a family-friendly resort with kids' programming (consider Generations Riviera Maya, also part of the El Dorado family).
  • Your wedding is 150+ guests and you need ballroom capacity (consider El Dorado Seaside instead).
  • You specifically want overwater bungalow accommodations for all guests (Palafitos has only 30 bungalows total — most guests stay at Maroma anyway).
  • You're looking for budget-tier all-inclusive pricing — Maroma is a premium 5-star property.

Travel logistics for your wedding guests

El Dorado Maroma sits about 36 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN) by road. It's roughly 25 minutes outside of downtown Playa del Carmen and 35 minutes outside of downtown Cancun. This is one of the more convenient El Dorado airport transfers — significantly shorter than Seaside (90 min), comparable to Casitas Royale (25 min).

For US travelers: Direct flights from most major US cities, typically 3-5 hours. No visa required. Round-trip airport transfers are included in the More Inclusive™ program. Guest costs run approximately $1,200 per person, land-only, for a 4-night all-inclusive stay (with the overwater bungalow option significantly higher for the couple's accommodations).

What it actually costs to get married at Maroma

Maroma offers three primary wedding packages with significant scope variation. The published packages range from approximately $1,500 (the basic ceremony-only package) to approximately $13,500 (the Memorable Moments Ultimate package, which includes a full private reception, signature cocktails, decorated venue, and a Celestial Honeymoon Special for the couple). The South Asian Wedding Experience package is approximately $16,799 for up to 50 guests.

Smaller weddings (under 25 guests): You'll typically pay the published wedding package fee, which scales with the package level you choose.

Mid-size weddings (25-50 guests): Wedding packages are often discounted significantly or partially complimentary, depending on your room block. Most of our couples at this guest count pay $0-$3,000 for the wedding package itself.

Larger weddings (50+ guests): The wedding package is frequently complimentary, and we negotiate additional group benefits (room upgrades for the couple, decor credits, cocktail hour upgrades, occasional complimentary honeymoon stays).

These numbers are for the wedding package — they don't include your travel, your guests' travel, or premium upgrades. Use our destination wedding cost calculator for a personalized estimate.

When to start planning your Maroma wedding

12-18 months is the right timeline for a Maroma wedding. Because the resort caps at 2 weddings per day, popular Saturday dates in peak season (December-April) book up earlier than properties with higher daily wedding throughput. The South Asian Wedding program in particular has specific date availability and warrants earlier booking.

Our complete destination wedding planning timeline walks through what happens at each stage.
