El Dorado Seaside Palms & Suites Wedding Guide: Two Sections, One Resort, and How to Choose
El Dorado Seaside sits on Kantenah Bay along the southern stretch of Riviera Maya — about 90 minutes south of Cancun International Airport, well past Playa del Carmen, on a mile-long private white-sand beach. It's an adults-only, AAA Four Diamond resort that's been one of our most-recommended wedding properties for couples who want a quieter, more secluded location than the high-traffic resorts closer to the airport.
Here's the thing couples need to understand first: El Dorado Seaside Palms and El Dorado Seaside Suites are not two different resorts. They're two sections of the same resort. The wedding happens at the same venues regardless of which section you choose. The choice is really about where you and your guests stay on the property — and those two sections offer genuinely different experiences.
I've personally stayed at both the Palms and Infinity (Suites) sections. This guide walks through the differences honestly, the wedding venues you'll be choosing from, and which section makes sense for which kind of couple.
Palms vs. Infinity (Suites): What's actually different
The two sections share everything that matters operationally — the same wedding department, the same beach, the same restaurants, the same Naay Spa (one of the largest in Riviera Maya), the same airport transfers, the same More Inclusive™ inclusions. What changes between them is the architecture, the room style, and the overall vibe of where you stay.
Traditional, garden-immersed
- Aesthetic: Colonial Mexican architecture, coconut plantations, garden walkways
- Vibe: Quieter, more romantic, hammocks tucked among palms
- Standard suite: Garden View Junior Suite, 441 sq ft
- In-room features: In-room Jacuzzi, sitting area, private balcony or patio
- Top suite: Presidential Studio (657 sq ft, private pool patio)
- Best for couples who want: A traditional Mexican feel, more peaceful surroundings
Modern, swim-up focused
- Aesthetic: Contemporary design, modern architecture
- Vibe: Livelier, more energetic, design-forward
- Standard suite: Junior Suite, 530 sq ft
- In-room features: 188 oceanfront swim-up suites connected to the main pool, balcony pools on every floor
- Top suite: Royal Swim-Up Suite in the Palms section is often recommended for the couple
- Best for couples who want: Swim-up access, contemporary design, more "resort energy"
"After staying at both sections, here's my honest read: Palms feels more like a retreat — quieter, romantic, lots of greenery between you and the beach. Infinity feels more like a modern resort — more compact, more energy, swim-up suites that connect to the main pool. Neither is better. The best section depends on whether your guests skew toward 'we want to relax' or 'we want to be where the action is.'"
One important note for the wedding couple: regardless of which section your guests stay in, you can choose either section for your own suite. Many of our couples book the Royal Swim-Up Suite in Palms for themselves (for the privacy) even when most guests are staying in Infinity.
The wedding venues at El Dorado Seaside
Seaside offers something most of our other El Dorado properties don't: a true variety of scale. The Sky Terrace can host smaller ceremonies; the Venetian Palace Ballroom can host weddings of up to 250 guests. This is one of the few El Dorado properties where genuinely large weddings work well.
Most couples mix and match — Sky Terrace ceremony with a beach reception, or pier ceremony with the Venetian Ballroom for a formal indoor reception. The wedding department helps you build the flow based on your guest count and weather considerations.
What makes a Seaside wedding genuinely different
The southern location is a feature, not a bug
Seaside sits at Km 95 of the Cancún-Tulum highway — about 90 minutes south of the airport. That's farther than Casitas Royale (25 minutes) or Palafitos (45 minutes). Some couples see that as a drawback. We don't, and here's why: the southern Riviera Maya is dramatically less crowded than the northern stretch. The beach is wider. The water clearer. The resort itself feels more secluded. For couples who specifically want to escape the high-traffic Cancun/Playa del Carmen feel, Seaside's distance is exactly what makes it work.
The Sky Terrace is one of the most underrated ceremony venues in Mexico
The Sky Terrace doesn't get as much attention as Palafitos or the Casitas Aqua Terrace, but it's genuinely special. Elevated above the beach with sweeping ocean views in every direction, it photographs beautifully and creates a sense of ceremony that ground-level beach venues can't quite match. If you want a ceremony that feels grand without requiring a giant guest list, the Sky Terrace is the move.
The only El Dorado property that handles weddings up to 250
If you're planning a larger wedding — 100+ guests — most adults-only Riviera Maya resorts can't comfortably accommodate you. The Venetian Palace Ballroom at Seaside is built for this. Indoor, climate-controlled, formal, scaling to 250. Some of our largest El Dorado weddings happen here for exactly this reason.
The Naay Spa is one of the largest in Riviera Maya
This matters for wedding weekends because spa services are often a meaningful part of the experience — pre-wedding massages for the couple, group services for the wedding party, mother-of-the-bride moments. The Naay Spa at Seaside has the capacity to handle larger spa bookings without the schedule constraints you'd hit at smaller properties.
"Seaside is where I send couples who want El Dorado quality but feel like the northern resorts are too busy. The trade-off is the airport drive. For most couples, it's worth it."
Who Seaside is the right fit for
You'll love Seaside if:
- You want an adults-only wedding (18+).
- You prefer a secluded, southern Riviera Maya location over the high-traffic resorts near Cancun.
- Your wedding is 30-250 guests (especially valuable for larger weddings that other El Dorado properties can't accommodate).
- You want variety in accommodations — guests can choose between traditional (Palms) or modern swim-up suites (Infinity).
- You're drawn to the Sky Terrace or over-the-water pier ceremony venues.
- You want a large spa as part of the wedding weekend experience.
- You're planning a wedding that may include South Asian, Indian, or other cultural celebrations requiring larger indoor venues like the Venetian Ballroom.
Seaside may not be the right fit if:
- Your guests are price-sensitive on travel time — the 90-minute transfer is meaningfully longer than other Riviera Maya options.
- You need a family-friendly resort with kids' programming (consider Generations Riviera Maya in the same family).
- Your wedding is under 15 guests and you want an intimate boutique property feel (Casitas Royale or Palafitos may suit you better).
- You specifically want overwater bungalow accommodations (only Palafitos offers this).
Travel logistics for your wedding guests
Seaside sits at Km 95 of the Cancún-Tulum highway — about 90 minutes south of Cancun International Airport (CUN), or about 25 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. This is the longest airport transfer of any El Dorado property, and it's the one logistical consideration to be clear-eyed about.
What this looks like for guests: They land at CUN, clear customs, get on the resort transfer (included in More Inclusive), and arrive at the property about 90 minutes later. Most guests don't mind the drive once — but it does mean planning fewer off-resort excursions during the trip, since round-trips into Playa del Carmen or Tulum take real time.
What this gives you in exchange: A markedly quieter resort experience, fewer crowds at the beach, and the kind of seclusion you can't get at properties closer to the high-tourism corridor. Worth it for the right couple.
Direct flights from most major US cities to CUN run 3-5 hours. Round-trip transfers from CUN to Seaside are included in the More Inclusive program.
What it actually costs to get married at Seaside
The honest answer: like all El Dorado properties, it depends on your guest count and room block. Seaside offers tiered wedding packages — the entry-level "Love Bliss For Two" package is built for elopement-style ceremonies, and packages scale up from there. The "Always and Forever" mid-tier package is one of the most commonly booked, with a base price for two guests and approximately $30 per additional guest.
Smaller weddings (under 25 guests): You'll typically pay the published wedding package fee, ranging from approximately $1,500 (basic ceremony) to $5,500 (full mid-tier package). Add-ons like premium photography and live music are extra.
Mid-size weddings (25-75 guests): Wedding packages are often discounted significantly or partially complimentary, depending on your room block. Most of our couples at this guest count pay $0-$3,500 for the wedding package itself.
Larger weddings (75+ guests): The wedding package is frequently complimentary, and we negotiate additional group benefits (room upgrades for the couple, decor credits, complimentary cocktail hours, sometimes free honeymoon stays).
These numbers are for the wedding package itself — they don't include your travel, your guests' travel, or premium upgrades. Use our destination wedding cost calculator for a personalized estimate.
When to start planning your Seaside wedding
For Seaside specifically, 12-18 months ahead is the right timeline. The Sky Terrace and the pier book up early, particularly for sunset slots during peak season (December through April). Smaller weddings can sometimes be planned in 6-9 months, but you'll have fewer venue and date options.
One additional consideration unique to Seaside: because it accommodates larger weddings, peak Saturday dates for 100+ guest celebrations book up extremely early — sometimes 18-24 months out. If you're planning a larger wedding, the sooner you reach out, the better.
Our complete destination wedding planning timeline walks through what happens at each stage.
What It's Like to Stay at Seaside
I'd toured Seaside several times before I finally stayed there, and it didn't disappoint. Our infinity pool suite was enormous, with a bathroom the size of my living room and a choice of pillows. There was a new handmade chocolate at turndown each night.
The food is the reason I recommend Seaside to foodies. The surprise favorite was the Culinarium: we stopped in for appetizers while waiting for a table and ended up eating there three times in four nights. There are also two spas, and there was entertainment every evening. It's a little over an hour from the Cancun airport, and well worth the drive.
