The Bliss Guide to a France Honeymoon
The Bliss Guide to a France Honeymoon
France is the honeymoon classic for a reason — but it's so much more than Paris. Beyond the City of Light lie lavender-covered hills in Provence, glamorous beaches along the Riviera, fairytale châteaux in the Loire, and the world's most famous vineyards. You can build a honeymoon that's pure city romance, slow countryside indulgence, or a little of everything. Here's our guide to planning a France honeymoon worthy of the moment.
Why France for a Honeymoon
Few countries combine romance, food, wine, and variety quite like France. In a single trip you can sip Champagne where it's made, wander a hilltop village, dine your way through Paris, and watch the sun set over the Mediterranean. It's beautifully walkable, superbly connected by high-speed train, and effortlessly romantic at every turn — which is exactly what you want when you're celebrating the start of your marriage.
When to Go
Late spring (April–June) and early fall (September–October) are the sweet spots: warm but not sweltering, gardens and vineyards at their best, and lighter crowds than high summer. Summer (July–August) is peak season — gorgeous on the coast, but Paris empties out in August as locals vacation, and some restaurants and shops close. If lavender is on your list, aim for late June through early August in Provence.
"For the best of France with the fewest crowds, we love early June and late September. You get long, warm days and peak scenery, and the most romantic hotels and restaurants are far easier to book than in the height of summer."
Where to Go: France by Region
The fun of a France honeymoon is mixing a city with the countryside or coast. Here's how the most romantic regions stack up.
Paris
The romantic heart of it all — the Seine at dusk, candlelit bistros, Montmartre's village streets, and world-class museums. A few nights in Paris is the perfect opener before you head out into the countryside.
Provence
Lavender fields, golden hilltop villages, open-air markets, and crisp rosé. Provence is where couples come to slow down — think long lunches, scenic drives through the Luberon, and unhurried afternoons.
The French Riviera
The Côte d'Azur delivers Mediterranean glamour: Nice, Antibes, and Saint-Tropez, sparkling water, beach clubs, and sunset apéritifs. Easy to pair with Provence for a south-of-France swing.
The Loire Valley
Storybook châteaux, manicured gardens, and excellent wine, all an easy hop from Paris. A dreamy, low-key add-on for couples who love history and romance.
Champagne
Just east of Paris, Reims and Épernay let you taste Champagne at the source, touring cellars and toasting your marriage where the bubbly is born.
Romantic Things to Do
A few experiences couples treasure most:
- A Seine dinner cruise past Paris's monuments lit up at night.
- Sunset from Montmartre or the Eiffel Tower with a glass of wine.
- Champagne tasting in the cellars of Reims or Épernay.
- A drive through Provence's lavender fields and hilltop villages.
- A day on the Riviera — a beach club, a harbor stroll, a long lunch by the sea.
- A château tour and wine tasting in the Loire Valley.
- A French cooking or pastry class for two.

Vow Renewals & Romance in France
France isn't only for honeymoons — it's one of the most romantic places in the world to renew your vows. Because a vow renewal is a symbolic celebration rather than a legal ceremony, there's no paperwork to wrestle with, which makes it wonderfully simple to arrange. Picture saying "I do" all over again in a Parisian garden, a Provençal vineyard, or on a Riviera terrace at sunset — just the two of you, or with the people you love. Whether it's a milestone anniversary or a long-awaited celebration, we can build it right into your trip.
Getting Around
Most couples fly into Paris and use France's superb high-speed TGV trains to connect cities — Paris to Provence or the Riviera in just a few hours. For the countryside, a rental car unlocks the hilltop villages and vineyards at your own pace. We'll map the route so the travel between stops feels like part of the romance.
"Our go-to France honeymoon: a few nights in Paris, the TGV south to Provence or the Riviera, and a Champagne toast along the way — all tailored to the two of you."
Before You Go: A Few Practical Notes
France is an easy, well-trodden destination — and we handle the planning from start to finish. For U.S. travelers:
- Visa. U.S. travelers can currently visit France visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
- ETIAS (coming soon). A new online pre-authorization for visa-free visitors — a quick application, around €20, valid three years — is being rolled out and is expected to become required during 2026–2027. It isn't required just yet, so we'll confirm the current status when you book.
- Passport. Valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates is the safe rule of thumb.
- Currency. France uses the euro; cards are widely accepted.
- Best time to go. Late spring and early fall are our sweet spots; note that parts of Paris quiet down in August.
Entry requirements across Europe are changing, so we always confirm exactly what's needed before departure and send a simple pre-trip checklist.
From the streets of Paris to the lavender of Provence and the sparkle of the Riviera, France gives you a honeymoon with range — romance, food, wine, and beauty at every turn. Getting the regions and timing right is what turns a wonderful trip into the trip of a lifetime, and that's where working with an experienced honeymoon travel agent makes all the difference.
