How to Plan an Unforgettable Group Getaway
How to Plan a Group Getaway to Mexico or the Caribbean — and the Resorts We Actually Recommend
Planning a group trip sounds fun — and it is, eventually. But getting ten people to agree on dates, a destination, a budget, and a resort? That's a project. Deposits, room categories, payment schedules, dietary requests, airport arrivals at different times — the logistics multiply fast.
At Bliss Honeymoons, we plan group getaways alongside our honeymoon and destination wedding work — and we've seen every scenario. This guide covers what actually makes group trips come together, what they cost in 2026, and the resorts our team genuinely recommends for friend groups and family gatherings in Mexico and the Caribbean.
Four Tips for Planning a Group Trip That Actually Comes Together
The biggest difference between a group trip that happens and one that stays in the group chat forever is how it's planned in the first month. Here's what works.
Destination decisions are fun. Date decisions are where group trips fall apart. Get everyone to commit to a travel window first — before anyone debates resorts or islands. Once dates are locked, everything else follows.
For a 4–5 night getaway, aim for at least 3 months of lead time — more for peak season dates. A year out is ideal for larger groups, since early deposit schedules let people spread the cost and dramatically increase attendance.
Group trips by committee don't happen. One person needs to be the decision maker, the communicator, and the person who follows up. If that feels like too much, a travel specialist handles all of it — including the individual questions from every person in your group.
The fastest way to lose people from a group trip is to let the budget creep up without warning. Set a realistic per-person range at the start and stick to it. Unless you have a large enough group to qualify for group pricing, individual rates apply — and that's perfectly fine.
"Group discount rates typically kick in at 10 rooms or more — and they're genuinely valuable when you hit that threshold. Below that number, you're generally booking at the standard all-inclusive rate, which is still excellent value. Don't let the absence of a group discount stop you from planning — the experience is worth it regardless."
What a Group Getaway Actually Costs in 2026
Here's an honest breakdown for a 4–5 night all-inclusive group trip to Mexico or the Caribbean in 2026, per couple:
- Mexico (Riviera Maya, Cancún, Los Cabos): $3,500–$5,000 per couple including flights and accommodation. The best value destination for group travel — widest selection of properties, most direct flight options from US cities, and strong all-inclusive inclusions.
- Dominican Republic (Punta Cana, Cap Cana): $3,500–$5,500 per couple. Strong value, beautiful beaches, and excellent resort options. Cap Cana is the upscale choice; Punta Cana has the widest range of price points.
- Jamaica (Montego Bay, Negril): $4,000–$5,500 per couple. Easy flight access from most US cities, lively atmosphere, great resort selection. Budget slightly more than Mexico or DR.
- St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua: $5,000–$7,000+ per couple. More beautiful, more boutique, and more expensive. Better for smaller, more intimate groups willing to spend more per person.
"When we plan group trips, we always tell people: budget for the trip you want, not the cheapest version of the trip. A group that goes somewhere they're genuinely excited about has a better time than a group that saved $300 a couple on a resort they settled for."
Our Exclusive Group Rate Availability — Something Most Agencies Don't Offer
Here's something we offer that most travel agencies don't: access to leftover group rate spaces from our destination wedding bookings.
When we manage room blocks for destination weddings, we often end up with extra rooms at group rates that aren't needed by the wedding party. Rather than let those spaces go to waste, we make them available to groups who want to travel at a significantly better rate than standard pricing.
We regularly have extra room block spaces available at destination wedding group rates — often at a meaningful discount from standard all-inclusive pricing. Email us to get on our list and we'll notify you when spaces become available that match your dates and destination. First come, first served.

Not every all-inclusive is equally good for groups. The best group resorts have enough room variety to accommodate different budgets within the same group, strong entertainment and social programming, and enough space that your group can always find each other — without the resort feeling overwhelming. Here are our top picks.
Mexico
An AAA Five Diamond property with exceptional service, stunning design using local artisan materials, and a staff-to-guest ratio that makes large groups feel genuinely looked after. Nine restaurants and eight bars give a group plenty to explore across a multi-day stay. The secluded Costa Mujeres location — 12 miles north of Cancún — keeps the atmosphere sophisticated and calm without feeling remote. One of our most consistently praised recommendations for upscale group travel.
Modern, elegant, and exceptionally well-suited to groups with a mix of room preferences. Spacious suites — many with rooftop terraces and private plunge pools — let couples within the group choose their level of luxury while everyone shares the same resort experience. Ten international restaurants, twelve bars, cooking classes, dance lessons, and watersports give the group plenty to do together or independently. Lively themed nights and live entertainment keep evenings engaging without feeling forced.
Dominican Republic
Our destination wedding specialist Lindsay books this property regularly and gets virtually no complaints. The dual-resort setup is the reason it works so well for groups: adults-only Zilara for those who want a quieter experience, family-friendly Ziva for those traveling with kids — and both sides share amenities, restaurants, and entertainment. This means a group with mixed family situations can all stay at the same resort without compromise. Juanillo Beach is genuinely stunning, the food across 25+ dining options is excellent, and the Canapolis water park gives groups with energy something to actually do together. One of the most versatile group resorts in the Caribbean.
Jamaica
Eighteen acres of beachfront all-inclusive luxury on Jamaica's sun-kissed west coast — and one of the most warmly reviewed resorts in the Caribbean. Couples Negril has a return rate as high as 40% in some weeks, which tells you everything about how guests feel when they leave. The atmosphere is lively but never overwhelming — guest get-togethers and social programming make it easy for a group to connect, while the treehouse spa and secluded beach spots give individuals plenty of space to decompress. The complimentary catamaran cruise, PADI scuba diving, watersports, and Negril Hills Golf Club access keep a group with different interests all happily occupied. Four restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining, live music and entertainment every evening, and a genuinely warm and attentive staff round out an experience that punches well above its price point.
Jamaica's newest and most talked-about Sandals property — completely reimagined and reopened in 2023 with a full Sandals 2.0 redesign. The resort centers around a chain of pools that flow through the property like its namesake waterfall, with five pool sections each offering a distinct vibe — from swim-up bar energy to quiet relaxation. Twelve restaurants on-site plus complimentary exchange privileges with neighboring Sandals Ochi give guests access to 28 dining venues total, making it one of the most impressive culinary lineups of any all-inclusive in Jamaica. The rooftop SkyPool suites are a genuine showstopper — and for groups where some want butler service and others don't, the 14 room categories accommodate every preference and budget within the same property. Dunn's River Falls is just minutes away, and complimentary golf at Upton Estate Golf & Country Club gives the group an easy shared excursion.
Why a Specialist Makes Group Travel Significantly Easier
Group travel has a way of multiplying every logistics challenge. One couple planning a trip has a handful of decisions to make. Ten couples planning a trip together have the same decisions — made ten different ways, at ten different speeds, with ten different budgets and preferences in play.
- One booking link for everyone. Your specialist sets up a dedicated booking page for your group. Each couple books independently through the same link, their rooms count toward your group, and your specialist tracks who has booked and who hasn't without you having to chase anyone.
- All the individual questions handled. Every group has that person who calls twelve times about airport transfers. Your specialist fields all individual questions — room upgrades, dietary needs, flight timing, travel insurance — so you're not spending your evenings answering texts.
- Access to group rate spaces. As mentioned above, we regularly have leftover group rate spaces from destination wedding blocks. Getting on our waitlist is the best way to access these.
- Someone to call when something goes wrong. A delayed flight affecting three couples arriving at different times. A room that's not ready. A group dinner reservation that got lost. Having a specialist with resort relationships means these issues get resolved quickly — without ruining the trip for anyone.
- Lindsay specializes in group travel. Our destination wedding specialist Lindsay handles group getaways alongside her wedding work and has coordinated group logistics at resorts across Mexico and the Caribbean. If you're planning a larger group trip, she's your person.
Celebrating a Milestone Birthday? Look at Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres, just north of Cancun, is one of our favorite spots for a birthday trip with friends. It's quieter than the Hotel Zone, with calm water and adults-only all-inclusives like Excellence Playa Mujeres and Beloved Playa Mujeres, where some suites come with plunge pools and butler service.
- A private catamaran with snorkeling and snacks is an easy way to celebrate with a smaller group.
- Spa birthday packages make a relaxing lead-up to the big night.
- A private beach dinner can usually be arranged with a personalized menu.
- A day on Isla Mujeres, a short boat ride away, adds island streets, local markets and the underwater museum.
