I'll be honest with you: Porto Zante Villas & Spa is on my personal bucket list. It has been for years. And the more research I do, the more I understand why honeymooners who've stayed there say the same thing — that it's the highest level of service they've ever experienced, at any hotel, anywhere in the world. Not the largest resort. Not the flashiest. But the one where the word "no" simply doesn't exist in the staff's vocabulary, where you feel — genuinely feel — like the entire island was arranged just for you.

Nestled on a private sandy beach in a secluded bay on Zakynthos, one of the most beautiful of the Greek Ionian islands, Porto Zante is a boutique collection of nine beachfront villas, each with its own private pool and stretch of beach. It has been named among the 34 most luxurious hotels in the world by Virtuoso, named Europe's Leading Beach Hotel by the World Travel Awards, appeared on Condé Nast Traveller's Gold List of World's Best Hotels, and earned Greece's Leading Hotel Spa award. But the awards matter less than what guests actually say when they leave — which is that they're already planning their return.

✦ A Note from Laura: Porto Zante is on my personal bucket list — it's the kind of property I've spent years researching and recommending to couples who want the absolute pinnacle of European villa luxury. If this speaks to you, let's talk about making it happen.

Why Porto Zante for a Honeymoon?

There are beautiful resorts in Greece. There are luxury hotels with fine dining and elegant pools and good service. Porto Zante is something different. It is a resort built entirely around the concept of genuine privacy — not the manufactured, branded kind, but the real thing. Nine villas. Your own beach. A butler who anticipates rather than just responds. A staff-to-guest ratio that makes five-star service at most hotels look like self-service.

  • Nine villas, all beachfront. Porto Zante has just nine villas — ranging from one to four bedrooms — all positioned directly on a private sandy beach with private pools and dedicated beach areas for each villa. You are never sharing your beach with strangers.
  • The service. This is what every review returns to. Personal butler service, 24-hour in-villa dining, twice-daily maid service, private chef available on request. One guest described the experience as "the equivalent of private yachting on land." Another noted the Head of Service told them on their first evening that the word "no" doesn't exist in his vocabulary — and meant every word of it.
  • The setting. Zakynthos — known also as Zante — is one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands, with turquoise Ionian waters, Venetian architecture in the island's capital, and one of Greece's most celebrated beaches (Navagio/Shipwreck Beach) accessible by boat from the resort.
  • The waterfront spa. Voted Greece's Leading Hotel Spa, the Porto Zante Waterfront Spa sits directly above the sea with over 20 treatments available — including in-villa treatments for couples who prefer not to leave their private terrace at all.
  • The dining. Two restaurants: The Club House serving Greek and Mediterranean cuisine in a beachfront setting, and Maya Restaurant with contemporary Asian fusion — sushi, sashimi, and Japanese cocktails at the Maya Bar. Both overlook the Ionian Sea. 24-hour in-villa dining means you need never leave your pool deck if that's what the day calls for.
"We recently stayed at Porto Zante for our honeymoon and I can say that they have the highest level of service I have ever had in my life. I have stayed at many luxury 5-star resorts and never have I seen the amount of care and attention to detail that they provide." — Porto Zante honeymooner, via TripAdvisor

The Villas: What to Expect

Porto Zante's villas are designed with the kind of intention that makes them feel genuinely personal rather than generically luxurious. Each is furnished with pieces from Armani Casa and Gervasoni, artwork by prominent Greek artists, Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems, Bulgari bathroom amenities, and Armani Casa bathrobes. Christofle Paris cutlery and Bernardaud design porcelain set the dinner table. The detail is staggering — and consistent.

Two & Three-Bedroom Villas

More space, more privacy, multiple pools in select villas. Ideal for couples who want to truly live in their villa — a proper kitchen or kitchenette, multiple living areas, and the sense of having a private home on the Ionian Sea.

Four-Bedroom Grand Villas

Porto Zante's largest accommodations — private beach, multiple pools, full kitchen, and the kind of space that makes a week feel far too short. Favoured by dignitaries, celebrities, and couples who want a genuinely landmark honeymoon experience.

Experiences at Porto Zante

Private Yacht Excursions

Porto Zante's own private yacht — and fleet of speedboats — can be booked for bespoke day trips around Zakynthos and beyond. The most celebrated itineraries include Navagio Beach (the famous Shipwreck Beach, inaccessible except by water), the Blue Caves on the island's northern coast, Turtle Island (Marathonisi), and excursions to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia. The resort will arrange for you to be picked up directly from their private dock — no transfers, no logistics, just departure.

The Waterfront Spa

Built directly above the sea, the Porto Zante Spa offers over 20 treatments drawing on Greek botanicals, aromatherapy, and international wellness traditions. Voted Greece's Leading Hotel Spa at the World Spa Awards. For honeymooners who prefer complete privacy, every treatment can be performed in-villa — a couples' massage on your private terrace as the sun sets over the Ionian is as romantic as it sounds.

Exploring Zakynthos

The island beyond the villa gates is worth exploring. Zakynthos Town's Venetian architecture and the Saint Dionysios Cathedral are beautiful. The island's sea turtle conservation programme — Zakynthos hosts the largest nesting population of loggerhead sea turtles in the Mediterranean — offers genuinely moving wildlife encounters. Porto Zante's team arranges private guides, chauffeurs, and tailored island experiences for guests who want to venture out.

Getting to Zakynthos

Zakynthos International Airport (ZTH) receives direct flights from many European cities during the summer season, typically April through October. From the US, the most common routing is via Athens (ATH) — a 40-minute domestic flight — or via a European hub such as London, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt. Porto Zante offers a complimentary chauffeur service from Zakynthos Airport; the resort is approximately 20 minutes away. For guests arriving by private yacht or boat, Porto Zante has its own private dock.

✦ Season Note: Porto Zante is open approximately April through October and closes for the winter season. The peak honeymoon window is June through September — book as early as possible, as the nine villas fill up. Late April, May, and early October offer beautiful weather with fewer guests and softer rates.

Is Porto Zante Right for You?

Porto Zante is for the couple who wants to feel like the world has paused just for them. It is not the resort for couples who want a buzzing pool bar or a nightclub a short walk away. It is the resort for couples who value genuine privacy, unhurried days, a view they could look at for hours, and service so attentive that they start to wonder how they'll manage without it when they return home.

It is also genuinely one of a kind. There are beautiful villa resorts in Greece. There is nothing else quite like Porto Zante.

"Other than the staff you feel like you are on your own private island. It's very expensive but oddly enough felt like good value for what they provide." — Seasoned luxury traveler, Porto Zante guest
