Curaçao may not be the first island that comes to mind for a honeymoon, and that's part of its charm. This small Dutch Caribbean island is relaxed, colorful and much less crowded than the big-name destinations, with great food, beautiful snorkeling and diving, and a handful of resorts where you can have a beach bungalow almost to yourselves.

Baoase Luxury Resort: Best for Total Privacy

When we first found Baoase, we were blown away. It's the definition of a small luxury beach resort: beautifully appointed rooms, stunning views and very personal service.

  • The bungalow to book: the Superior Beachfront Pool Suite, with a private plunge pool, your own exclusive section of beach and two patios for breakfast at sunrise.
  • Dining: just a couple of restaurants, but a rotating menu from the executive chef spanning Asian, Italian, Indian and more. Very accommodating for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free guests. Choose an all-inclusive plan, or a Full American Plan (three meals a day and snacks), which is ideal if you don't drink.
  • Things to do: a health club and spa, sunset sails on the resort's private yacht, and local guides who can plan your days on the island.
  • Romance extras: romantic turndowns, private beach dinners and beach picnics.
  • Weddings: wedding packages are available. Note that weddings of more than 50 guests require a full resort buyout.

Sandals Curaçao: Best All-Inclusive Bungalow

If you want an all-inclusive beach bungalow, Sandals Curaçao is the island's best option. It's adults-only, with a beautiful beach, a full spa, water sports and plenty of evening entertainment.

  • The bungalow to book: the seaside butler bungalow with a private, see-through-edge pool, steps from the ocean. (Sandals room names are long. Ask us and we'll point you to the exact category.)
  • A lower-cost alternative: the Rondoval Butler Villa with a private pool. It isn't on the beach, but it has tropical views, a plunge pool and lots of privacy.
  • Dining: 11 restaurants and 7 bars, and a dietary concierge for gluten-free, vegan and allergy needs. Having eaten at hundreds of resorts over 20 years, we can honestly say the food is very good.
