The Mocktail Menu Reshaping Wellness at Lomas Hospitality's Resorts

In the roughly 10 months since Lomas Hospitality debuted new mocktail menus at its resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, Dolores López Lira e Hinojo, founder and president of Grupo Lomas, said the healthy offering is already inspiring guests to be more wellness-oriented.

When people aren't hungover or feeling tipsy, that's when they truly enjoy the destination and the resort.

"The funny thing is since we have debuted the mocktail menu, we are seeing a lot more people taking part in early morning activities like yoga on the beach," said López Lira e Hinojo.

López Lira e Hinojo said it was a conversation she had with a loyal travel advisor that triggered the idea to implement the menu of non-alcoholic mixed drinks.

"I had an agent tell me she didn't drink, yet every time she came to one of our resorts, she was immediately greeted with a glass of champagne," she said, noting that the advisor also said there weren't many fun options at the restaurants for guests who didn't drink.

The bartenders were taught to make and prepare the mock drinks and challenged to make them so good that guests preferred them over cocktails, said López Lira e Hinojo.

That's the challenge and they love it. We want them to make them better than the ones with alcohol.

The Menu

So what is López Lira e Hinojo's favorite drink off the new menu? "The hibiscus," she said. "It's delicious and also great for your system." The Caramelized Hibiscus is a hibiscus infusion with cinnamon syrup and still water — one of five mocktails built around high-quality, fresh, local ingredients.
