Christmas at El Dorado Maroma

For years, I’ve been talking about skipping Christmas and spending the holiday on a beach. This year, we finally made it happen.

We just spent four very relaxing days at El Dorado Maroma over the Christmas Holiday. It was the break we desperately needed, and the perfect way to spend the holidays.

If you’ve never been to El Dorado Maroma before, you have no idea what you’re missing! This resort is home to the only luxurious overwater bungalows in Mexico, and one of the most beautiful, baby powder sand beaches you’ll find in Riviera Maya.

Here’s a few reasons why you should consider skipping the tree, gifts, and endless driving for something a little more relaxing next year.

1. The Service Was Great

We were a little nervous that the staff members that were working on Christmas may be a little salty about it. But what we found is that everyone we interacted with seemed to be genuinely enjoying their job. By the end of the stay we made several new friends, and can’t wait to go back.

2. It’s Not Crowded

This is the thing that surprised me the most. I expected to find the beach and pools very busy. But what I learned is that while the family friendly resorts tend to be busy over Christmas, occupancy levels at the adult only resorts tend to be lower. This means never having to fight for a beach bed, wait in line at the bar, or battle for a restaurant reservation. I think this was one of my favorite things about the trip.

3. It’s tropical, but still ‘Christmassy’

While we were walking around the hotel we noticed that several of the rooms were decorated with wreaths, stockings, etc. There were several people at the resort who make it an annual thing. One even had a Christmas tree in their room! We saw several people on the beach in bikinis and Santa hats. The restaurants had a special holiday menu. So, it felt a little like Christmas, without all the work or weird relatives.
