walking along the beach at el dorado casitas royale

My initial experience with an all-inclusive resort was at El Dorado Royale back in 2006. Since that memorable visit, I have returned to both El Dorado Royale and Casitas Royale numerous times over the years. They have recently implemented some enhancements, so we were thrilled to explore these new features!

The Casitas: We stayed in Casita 2710. The room was in excellent condition overall. The bed was comfortable and spotless, and the fixtures did not display the usual signs of aging that one often encounters in older hotels. These rooms haven’t been refurbished in about a decade, but we understand that a refresh is in the pipeline. The challenge lies in the fact that the Casitas are perpetually booked! Therefore, it’s quite difficult to find the appropriate time for renovations.

The Jr Suites: The Jr Suites are finally undergoing an update, and we couldn’t be more pleased! The new decor is vibrant, clean, and airy. They aim to have all the rooms in the Jr. suite section modernized by the end of the year. There are currently a limited number of these updated suites available.

The food: Numerous exciting modifications have been made to the dining establishments. Cocotal now features food stations, including a crepe station, a taco bar, and more. They provide snacks by the front door if you want a small bag of fresh fruit to take to the pool or on an excursion. While JoJo’s and El Ricon are no longer there, they’ve added a taco bar! The Italian restaurant in the Casitas section remains, but the Italian restaurant under the lobby has been transformed into a Mediterranean eatery. Although recent reviews about the food have been mixed, I cannot fathom why. Everything we enjoyed during our stay was exceptional!

The grounds: One of the advantages of staying at an older hotel is the lush landscape. This resort is adorned with an abundance of beautiful flowers and trees, making it a delight to stroll around.

The beach: Approximately 15 years ago, an artificial reef was installed at this hotel to mitigate erosion caused by hurricanes. Initially, they believed it would submerge and integrate seamlessly with the ocean; however, this has not occurred. Removing it now would be disastrous for the marine life that has made the artificial reef their habitat. If you are an ardent fan of pristine, white sandy beaches, then El Dorado Maroma would be a more suitable choice for you. However, if you spend the majority of your vacation at the swim-up bar or pool, you will find this resort perfectly satisfactory. And the pros at this hotel still greatly outweigh the cons.

Ultimately, my experiences at El Dorado Royale and Casitas Royale have been nothing short of delightful. The recent upgrades have only enhanced the charm of these resorts, making them a worthwhile destination for any traveler seeking comfort and elegance.
