Recently, Laura Frazier, the founder of Bliss Honeymoons, had the opportunity to spend a few days at Secrets Playa Blanca. While her stay coincided with Hurricane Helene, she was still thoroughly impressed by the resort and its offerings. Here’s a glimpse into her experience:
The Resort
Secrets Playa Blanca is a stunning new addition to the Secrets family, owned by the same company that operates Secrets Maroma, Secrets Akumal, and Secrets Tides. Having stayed at Secrets Tides earlier this year, I noticed some similarities between the two, particularly in the room decor and overall ambiance. The design is chic, modern, and elegant, with rooms that are both stylish and incredibly comfortable. The beds were especially cozy, and every corner of the resort was impeccably clean.
Dining Experiences
The food at Secrets Playa Blanca was simply outstanding. During my stay, I dined at several of the resort’s restaurants. Here’s a quick rundown:
Seaside Grill: I enjoyed a perfectly cooked salmon for lunch.
Market Cafe: A delicious brunch that fueled my day.
Portofino: Dinner here was an absolute treat.
Although many of the other dining options were closed due to the weather, the meals we had were fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. I also experienced poolside service at the Preferred Club pool, where I indulged in a Mediterranean pizza that was incredible. As a vegetarian, I appreciated the resort’s variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menu options, which made dining effortless.
The Beach
One of the highlights of Secrets Playa Blanca is its stunning beach. Unlike some other beaches in the area, which can be less than ideal, this beach is perfect for a long stroll along the shore or simply lounging on a beach bed with a good book. It was the ideal place to relax, even amidst a storm.
Exceptional Service
The staff at Secrets Playa Blanca deserves immense credit for their dedication and professionalism, especially during the hurricane. Despite the weather conditions, they ensured that all guests were safe, comfortable, and well taken care of. Many team members stayed on-site for over 48 hours, yet service remained seamless. Flooded rooms were attended to immediately, and guests were relocated as needed. A special shoutout to my butler, who saved my phone after it got soaked on my way to the buffet (because I really wanted an omelet!). He promptly brought an ice bucket filled with rice to help dry it out.
Final Thoughts
Although I didn’t get to experience the tequila tasting room or the spa due to the storm, my stay at Secrets Playa Blanca was delightful. I did get a peek at some of the wedding locations, and they were breathtaking. I would absolutely recommend this resort for an unforgettable adults-only wedding, honeymoon, or group getaway. I can’t wait to return and fully experience everything this incredible resort has to offer!
