Bliss Honeymoons Founder Laura Frazier recently had the opportunity to spend a few days at Secrets Playa Blanca in Costa Mujeres, Mexico. Her stay coincided with Hurricane Helene — which, as you'll read, actually gave her a uniquely revealing look at how the resort handles adversity. She was thoroughly impressed. A Note on the Hurricane
Laura's stay coincided with Hurricane Helene, which meant some resort amenities were temporarily unavailable — including the tequila tasting room and spa. Some dining venues were also closed during the storm. However, as you'll read below, the way the staff handled the situation actually made the stay more memorable, not less. The Resort
Secrets Playa Blanca is a stunning new addition to the Secrets family, owned by the same company that operates Secrets Maroma, Secrets Akumal, and Secrets Tides. Having stayed at Secrets Tides earlier in the year, I noticed some similarities between the two — particularly in the room decor and overall ambiance. The design is chic, modern, and elegant, with rooms that are both stylish and incredibly comfortable.
The beds were especially cozy, and every corner of the resort was impeccably clean. There is a consistency of quality across the Secrets brand that gives you real confidence when booking — you know what you are going to get, and Playa Blanca delivers it beautifully.

The food at Secrets Playa Blanca was simply outstanding — and this came through even with some venues closed during the storm. Every meal I had was fresh, flavorful, and served piping hot. Here is a quick rundown of where I dined:

One of the true highlights of Secrets Playa Blanca is its stunning beach. Unlike some other beaches in the area of Mexico, which can be rocky or seaweed-prone, this beach is perfect — ideal for a long stroll along the shore or simply lounging on a beach bed with a good book. It was the perfect place to relax, even amidst the storm.
Exceptional Service — Especially During the Storm
The staff at Secrets Playa Blanca deserve immense credit for their dedication and professionalism, especially during Hurricane Helene. Despite the weather conditions, they ensured that all guests were safe, comfortable, and well taken care of throughout. Many team members stayed on-site for over 48 hours, yet service remained seamless.
Flooded rooms were attended to immediately, and guests were relocated as needed without fuss. And I have to give a special shoutout to my butler, who rescued my phone after it got soaked on my way to the buffet — because I really wanted an omelet. He promptly brought an ice bucket filled with rice to help dry it out. That kind of thoughtful, proactive service is what sets a truly great resort apart.
Wedding Venues
Although I didn't get a full tour during the hurricane, I did get a peek at several of the wedding venues at Secrets Playa Blanca — and they were breathtaking. For couples considering a destination wedding in Costa Mujeres, this resort is absolutely worth a serious look. The combination of elegant design, a beautiful beach, and the Secrets brand service level creates an exceptional backdrop for a wedding celebration.

Due to the storm, I wasn't able to experience two amenities I was particularly looking forward to — the tequila tasting room and the spa. Both looked impressive from what I could see, and fellow guests who visited later in the trip spoke very positively about them. I am already looking forward to returning to experience everything the resort has to offer on a sunny week.
Final Thoughts
My stay at Secrets Playa Blanca was genuinely delightful — even with a hurricane in the mix. The resort is beautiful, the food is outstanding, the beach is perfect, and the service is in a completely different league. I would absolutely recommend it for an unforgettable adults-only honeymoon, destination wedding, or group getaway. I can't wait to go back and fully experience everything this incredible resort has to offer.
